what do you think about my decision to serve?
Well this is my 5th year in college and i still dont know what i want to do. accumulated loans and debt. thats where the navy comes in. ill pick a job that fits me, take college courses, get paid, travel --when im done--Finish school, earn my degree, have benefits, and travel! all in 8 years; its just my gut reaction to both my situation, and the economy. takes alot to make a decision like serving, but i think im ready. you only live once! im open to OPINIONS, SUGGESTIONS, EXPERIENCES... you can email me also: mdh_henderson@yahoo.com I take my asvab next week thursday i am physically fit [football] my dad served marines, i understand the risk involved with the US military i am joining for change, and moral reasons, not just money/benefits i have spoken to recruiter, just want to get more advice from various people thank you all for your input im curious to know what branch you all are in too. navy? army? airforce? marines? etc.

I applaud your decision but I'll give you one warning - the military isn't like college - you can't quit or change schools because you don't like it. It is a way of life more than a job. I've seen lots of kids come in thinking it was the end all to their problems and for many that was true but for others it is not. Be sure it is what you want to do before committing.

I think people join the military for different reasons, and yours isn't unusual. However the one reason you are going in may hinder you. if you have outstanding debt, the military may not accept you. That said, the best way to know for certain is to talk to a recruiter. Good luck!

I was in your exact shoes not even four years ago. It was one of the best decisions that I have ever made which is the really interesting thing. I was nothing like the military type when I first enlisted and I'm probably still not. The fact of the matter is that it really is a way of life not just something to take lightly. You're going to hate Basic and AIT at first but when you're finished and graduated you'll look back on it and think about how much fun it really was. At least I did. I was deployed to Iraq three months after I graduated too. That's just something that you're going to have to deal with though. If God is calling you to do something, you should listen and follow everything laid before you.

Go for it! It will be a good life experience. You should be able to go in as an E3, because of your college credits. That means a higher pay. Like someone mentioned before your debt may be a problem, but you won't know for sure until you speak with a recruiter. I hope I can sign my contract next month. (Navy Corpsman

Oregon Trail Stimulation Game? HELP!!?
I remember this game I played in 5th grade, it was an Oregon Trail game you could play online only if you had the software to it, and I'm wondering if I could find the link to download it and play it online! I really love that game! It was fun! First, you click on new game then pops up a journal and you have to select some stuff, like the name of the journal keeper, then if you're a (something I forget), adventurer, or trail guide. Then what year you are heading out to settle, then what you actually were before you came out to settle, (ex: banker, tailor, artist, etc.). Then you had to choose your wagon, then choose how many people will accompany you, then you click on "Travel The Trail!" and then it shows you some cities with people in them. You can click on them to talk with them, then you can also go to other parts of the city, and to leave the city you need to buy some draft animals from "Henderson's Stables" so you can leave the city on your wagon. PLEASE I NEED TO KNOW WHAT THE NAME OF THE GAME IS!! I REALLY LIKE IT!! THANK YOU!!

It's simple. Bailing out the Big 3 is not really for the Big 3, it's for the workers who work there. Saving the pensions and retirement funds of all those regular people is not what the the government is for. Government is there only to bail out big financial corporations and multi millionaires. Do you know how many multi millionaires work on the Big 3 assembly lines? Why would we use government coffers to give money away to regular people? According to some, those who work 30 years and put their hard earned cash into a pension fund don't deserve to collect when they retire. It's more reasonable to declare bankruptsy and dissolve the pension fund so the money can be used to make them more competetive. Now move along and pay your taxes so the uber rich can collect their fair share in subsidies, contracts, and bailouts. Keep asking questions like this and you're liable to get a visit from your local IRS agent or Dept. of Homeland Security.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think that the only way to flat out cancel the union contracts and start over is via bankruptcy court order. I've read that it costs an average of $73 an hour to employ a union auto worker. You can do the math on that per year, per employee. On the other hand, the non-union workers that build Japanese cars in the US cost an average of $43 an hour. Based on that, if true, it doesn't matter how much money the government throws at the Big-3 - they cannot manufacture a quality product that is affordable. They can manufacture a poor-quality product that drives everyone into the arms of the Japanese auto makers. I vote no. Let them compete

I just ordered an Asus EEE pc, for mobility, but then i realized, my school, and my public library, and my office, dont have wifi, and i dont have any spare modem ports for ethernet. So i would like to get a satellite adapter, that can plug in via USB, and be compatible with Linux, and have a low monthly fee, for a fast/reliable connection. I understand Verizon and Att have these, but i would like to know if anyone has any experience with them personally, and if anyone knows of any other adapters. Im looking for one thats less that 30 a month, and has fast connections, with service, wherever i am (I live in Vegas/Henderson NV) Im constantly traveling to Chicago as well, so a nationwide coverage plan would be fantastic. Anyone know of any? Help me out thanks

Don't know about Linux, but I use Windows XP and have a Treo 700p from Verizon. My service plan is $80 a month for 450 minutes of voice and unlimited Internet access using EVDO (which gets about 500+kbps download). The coverage is good in all major cities and next to major roads. I run a software called PDAnet (http://www.junefabrics.com/palmnet/) on my Treo and connected to USB to PC. By using this software, you can avoid the extra service charge from Verizon for using your cellphone as a modem. The plus side of having a smartphone is that you can surf the net on the phone and get email, when connecting a laptop PC is not convenient. The other way is to have a USB modem EVDO device for $40 a month. Either way the cost for Internet access is the same

I haven't had the need to use an inspector but it is a wise move. If I were you, I'd talk to people I know and see who they have used and their comments may give you a better sense than just reading them here. I believe that inspectors need to be licensed, make sure the one you pick has a permit to do that type of work. Also, interview them. Ask what they are going to look at and what they will tell you in their report.

Realtors are normally the best bet in finding a home inspector. Ask your Realtor, they will not lead you wrong on that one. They will be protected as you will by having a good inspector check out the home you want to purchase

I just recieved a speeding ticket for going 70 in a 55. I just moved to Raleigh, NC and was traveling back from henderson on Rt 1 S. In the drivers manual for NC it states that if there is no sign posted you can go 70 on an interstate. I didnt see any signs so thats why i was going 70. My question is beings that in my 6 years of driving i dont have any traffic viloations and nothing on my record and considering the circumstances would a preyer for judgment be something i should be able to receive? and if in fact i get that whats going to happen? Will i have to still pay the ticket and court fees? and will the points be dropped so my ins isnt affected? Finally, will there be any other fees that i have to pay besides the 170 (for the ticket and court fees)?

You hit the most notorious speed trap in the state. BTW, you will receive solicitations in the mail to handle this for you. Do NOT, again, do NOT use TTRNC -- they are a rip off. I have always used an attorney in my cases and my daughter's and father's just for the convenience of not having to appear. I know a good one in Franklin county. If you want, email me. Now, to answer your questions. If this is your first offense, you should be able to plead it down to "improper equipment" and save your prayer for judgement for a more serious offense (if necessary). You can only use 1 PJC (prayer for judgment, continued) every 3 years. You will still have to pay court costs and a fine. The attorney, if you choose to use one, will get whatever is left after s/he quotes you a flat fee to handle the case. The flat fee averages around $200 - $215 typically and, as I said, it is worth the little extra to not have to go to court to me. Either way, pleading it down or taking the PJC means NO points for insurance or on license. Disclaimer: I am not a lawyer and this is not legal advice. Hi there everyone. I was a work this morning & one of our diesel mechanics was informed that his grandpa was out riding an ATV yesterday & hadn't returned home last nite. His family is very upset & no one knows if the grandpa is just lost or injured or worse.He is heading out to Henderson, Nevada where his grandpa lives. I have two poor choices: Green Bay, which is solid but going up against San Diego, or Jacksonville, who is travelling to Denver. Packers have a great D, and the Chargers are struggling, but is this the week they figure it out? Jacksonville is playing in the high altitude, and without Henderson.
